I Found Bilingual Books In Twi By Koli Olum

We’re multi-culti in my house, and with my 2-year-old son being exposed to four mother languages – Japanese, English, Twi, and Nzema – I was on the lookout for books that could accommodate our diverse language needs. Creating my own books seemed like a good idea, but it would require significant time and effort. However, one day while scrolling through my Instagram feed, I stumbled upon a profile called Koli Olum.

Koli & Olum is a Treasure Trove

Koli & Olum is a treasure trove for parents like me who are looking for bilingual books in African languages and English. Their collection includes a wide range of beautifully illustrated books that not only promote language learning but also celebrate African culture and heritage.

One of the things that immediately caught my attention was the variety of languages available. Koli & Olum offers books in numerous African languages, including but not limited to Twi, Hausa, Fanti, Yoruba, Zulu, Swahili, Amharic, and more. This extensive selection ensures that children from different African backgrounds can find books that resonate with their linguistic roots.

As for me, I have to learn Twi so it provides a great means of bonding with my family. And interestingly enough, we’re able to incorporate our other languages, use it for story time or singing songs.

A key note: If you don’t see your language you can contact them through the email address on their website. From what I understand, if they get enough requests then the language will be considered for publishing.

They are based in Ghana

However, they do international shipping. I ordered mine through Instagram. You can easily shop and order directly from the website. You are able to make payments by card or mobile money. I paid mine through mobile money and I had it delivered to my home the next afternoon. The customer service was quick and efficient and the delivery guy was great.

Great Packaging, Smart Branding

The box holding the books is very sturdy and matches the branding very well. On the top of the box there is a “To” and “From” area so that you can write a personalized note. The actual book pages are nice and sturdy, cardboard type so that they don’t tear easily or get damaged. Which is something I really appreciate because toddlers are still in the learning stage to be “delicate”.

The illustrations are so colourful and complemented with eye catching pastel background colours. If you take a look at the Koli & Olum Instagram page you can follow the artist that did the illustrations.

My son and I read these books when we wake up in the morning and when he wakes up from his nap. He loves turning the pages, saying the words and its also another teaching guide to colors. We even use it to learn our other languages. So the books are quite multifunctional not to forget reasonably priced.

Grab this book as a gift for your loved ones or friends. If you are in education, you can contact Koli & Olum for wholesale orders.

Pronunciation Guide

As I’m not fluent, I’m so grateful that, I am able to check the pronunciation on their website.

Key Note: The pronunciation video maybe difficult to navigate on their YouTube channel so please visit Koli & Olum website to their pronunciations page to find the exact guide in your language.

Other Resources

Some other leaflets came inside of the box. These are for those living in Ghana and helpful library information that you and your child can have access to for their fun reading experience.
